Cheap #eeeeats: Miami Edition

The Magic City, Miami. My hometown. My ever-growing, ever-changing city of dreams. You wouldn’t understand how great of a city Miami is until you visit and see for yourself. The beaches, the culture, the food — what is there not to love? A few years ago, Miami wasn’t even on the culinary map or a blip in the arts game. Now, Miami has grown up and become a force to be reckoned with.

Let’s check out some of my favorite cheap #eeeeats in my hometown:

Taquiza

South Beach could be a very expensive place, but don't you worry. Some of the best tacos in the city are found at Taquiza. No matter what time of day, Taquiza is serving up authentic tacos on homemade blue masa tortillas. Most tacos are priced at $3.50, including my favorites the ‘Al Pastor’ and ‘Asada.’ You won’t find just any normal chips and salsa here. Taquiza creates hand-torn masa chips known as ‘Totopos,’ which are little pockets of amazingness. You won’t find better tacos at a better price in the Magic City than at Taquiza.

Versailles

A must in Miami is Cuban food, and some of the most famous Cuban food you can find is on SW 8th Street at Versailles. The classic menu choice is the ‘Cuban Sandwich’ which, at Versailles comes with sweet ham, roast pork, and swiss cheese on toasted cuban bread with mustard and pickles. The Cuban Sandwich will run you $6.50. If a sandwich isn't something you want, try the ‘Vaca Frita.’ Vacate Frita is shredded beef, grilled with onions and cuban mojo. It comes served with rice, beans and sweet plantains. This big, filling dish will only run you $10.50 at Versailles. After all that, do yourself a favor and order a ‘Colada.’ A Colada is basically this medium sized espresso that is extra strong and sweet. We Cubans call it liquid gold.

La Sandwicherie

One of Miami's favorite sandwich shops is La Sandwicherie, with locations in South Beach and Brickell. La Sandwicherie has been around since 1988 and I can tell you, it's amazing. What makes these sandwiches so great is their homemade French vinaigrette. Now this place is tiny, but their sandwiches are massive. Each menu item will explode your tastebuds and leave you feeling some kind of way. Most sandwiches are under $11, so what are you waiting for? La Sandwicherie will leave you wanting to come back for more.
